On this day 60 years ago, in 1955, the Disneyland theme park opened in Anaheim, California.

I wish that Garrison Keillor would trust me to “Be well, and do good work,”
without having to tell me so, but I understand that this is what he must do,
to quiet the fear that uncontrollable forces will act against his beloved.
I wish that he could be here, ushering me across this busy intersection;
one hand in mine, the other, at the small of my back.
He is not. I am safe.
I wish that I could quiet the impulse to
remind him to “Look both ways,
especially when you hear sirens.” I cannot. He is safe. It is a small world.
Though mountains divide, the oceans wide, it is a small world after all.
